Rose gardening advice?
I received a catalog in the mail yesterday and really am thinking of trying my hand by planting at least one rose bush next season and was wondering if there was any advice for a person just learning about roses and how to care for them? How to prepare the dirt and when to give rose food and how often? The one that I was looking at to buy is called a Hybrid Tea and has a coral-pink tone to its petals and grows to 5 feet tall and prefers full sun, which I have a lot of. I live in Zone 5.

Rose flower growers, help needed, what do rose plants really like please read below?
I grow some roses in OR zone 7, and they do fine, but I just bought 5 more and I want to plant them where they will be really happy. I have good soil and raise a lot of flowers and it is hot here in the summer altho it gets cool at night. It seems that if they get any a.m. shade, they tend towards mildew on their leaves and I think they like a.m. sun with afternoon shade, as do most plants here. Any good suggestions besides spraying and all ? Or any new info on raising happy rose plants. They are hybrid teas.

I found black spot of the bottom leaves of a new David Austin rose I planted in the Spring. I need some advice
I hate to use chemicals on my lawn, I keep things very organic. I'll tell you what I've done so far and if you could please give me additional advice I would be most greatful!!! I trimmed off any spotted leaves from the stem of the plant. I've checked the stem for any sign of disease and there does not appear to be any. I've cleaned the soil of any fallen leaves. This plant is new, planted rootstock this Spring. The area I planted in had never had roses before. This was the first addition to a rose garden I was just beginning, starting with a rose named Mary Rose which happens to be my recently deceased mom so I really want to keep the plant. PLEASE give me your best advice. No, I'm not watering too much. If I'm guilty of anything it would be watering too little. The summer has been extremely dry and I know I should water them more. Could that be the problem???
Which grass is best for an attractive, environmentally conscious lawn?
I'm planning to re-sod a small front yard in eastern Pennsylvania (18' X 28'.) I think I'm in zone 6, climate wise. I live in a historic district, where a traditional looking lawn or a completely landscaped garden is required. The yard faces northwest, and gets strong, full sunlight in the afternoon. I don't have much time for gardening, so I'm planning a small lawn surrounded by a low, evergreen hedge (small boxwoods unless I can find something more interesting.) The foundation plantings in front of my house are azaleas and shrub roses. I use all organic methods and no chemical fertilizers whenever possible. I'd prefer a lawn that doesn't have to be watered, once it's established, for environmental reasons. I use a rotary, hand-pushed lawnmower, so a finer textured grass would be preferred, if available. (The environmental factor is more important to me.)

Neighbours cat is stealing. Found 16 garden gloves and underclothes of ours. See funny side BUT it's COSTLY!
Have thought I had been misplacing garden gloves (including heavy leather gloves for pruning roses) and clothing. Thought I was getting alzheimers for all these months! I remembered I had chased this particular cat out of the house and laundry on different occasions and saw a new pair of gloves where I hadn't been gardening so rang a neighbour to see whose cat it was and you guessed it - has been pinching knickers and other clothing for months and had pinched her garden gloves a couple of days ago. Who is liable for replacements? See the funny side but IT IS COSTLY.......... Jewellery has gone missing (only one earring - never both!) Heard he also likes shiny things. HELP required other than keeping my doors shut which isn't an option.
What's in your closet? (that you want to write about.)?
I have a basket in the shape of a teapot, that has antique cups-saucers with gold trim for when my friend and I have tea in the rose garden park this spring. There is also an antique lace tablecloth, and linen napkins, and a variety of delish handpicked teas in it. We will go in long spring dresses and gloves, with our widebrimmed hats.
Can someone help me with "Incident in a Rose Garden"?
I know that there is a version of the poem that starts off like this, "Gardener Sir, I encountered Death Just now among our roses Thin as a scythe he stood there. I knew him by his pictures He had on his black coat Black gloves, and broad black hat." ..and it goes on with the rest of the poem. but i read another version with more stanza's in it last year in my English class that one of the lines was talking about death that looks "dressed like a spanish waiter" does anyone know the version i'm talking about, and if they could post it. thanks.

What is the name of your favorite rose to grow in your garden?
I am a rose-aholic. Everytime I'm at a garden center, I want a new rose plant more than anything else. But I have found some great tried and true roses over the years (I'm in Massachusetts, so you can imagine it is hard). So far, I think Hybrid teas should be considered an annual or avoided all together because they get disease and spread it among my hardy roses. I won't buy them anymore. I love the Hot Cocoa Floribunda, you can't kill it, and the Easy Going Floribunda. And a great performing shrub rose in hot pink is Lady Elsie May, it's a 2 x 2 foot shrub. Can't wait to hear your answers (then I'll go rose shopping again;)
Rose tree with multiple offshoots from base?
I am new to gardening and bought a home with many rose trees. Some of them had a few offshoots from what looks like a knobby base of the main tree. I cut them off at the base as low as possible. Now they are coming back in triples....meaning, I have a ton of offshoots. I am not sure what to do. The rose tree is growing nicely and gives beautiful pink roses. I do not know where it came from or what type of rose it is. Thanks in advance.

Can you grow long stemmed roses from the old stem?
My hubby got me a dozen red long stemmed roses for Valentines Day. They sat in water in a clear vase in the window. After the buds dried out and died, I was cleaning them up and realized that there was new growth sprouting out of the lower part of the stem that was still in the vase but just above the water. I took a few of them and put some in glasses of water in our greenhouse and a few in soil. Can you actually start rose bushes this way? I have never seen anything like it.
how to get a bloom from long stem roses ?
"I live in Maine. ' zone 4-5 ' Ive tried to grow long stem roses in very sunny area with good soil drainage, but for some reason I can't seem to get any flowers, just very long stems with lots of green leaves. I feed it miracle grow food for roses and have had it planted outside for two years now. Anyone know what I can do to get a bloom?"
Are long stem rose clones available for sale?
I don't have a lot of knowledge of roses but I am interested in learning to grow them. I would really like to grow long stem roses but can't really find any info on where to obtain seeds or clones. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much.

All of a sudden i see pretty deep purple, but wild looking, roses growing off two hybrid tea roses I bought. Is this something to worry about? I actually don't mind the look but it is weird.
What are some secrets to growing really large hybrid tea rose blooms?
I just started growing roses a couple years ago, and I do get pretty large roses - but I figured a little help couldn't hurt :) What do you suggest? They get fertilized with RoseTone as directed on the bag, and they get a full day of sun... Not sure how much water they like, but they get a deep watering a couple times a week without wetting the leaves... Any suggestions?

Most people grow roses from clipings, and this seems to work well, but I have had NO luck with it, but what about from seed? The hip of a rose has seeds, will these grow fast at all, or even grow? And how well? Is there a difference?? How do I go about planting them, a green house for starters, right?....Okay, so as you see I know nothing about growing roses from seed, I need help!!
